No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do movie theaters work? Which seats in theaters are the best? (never done this before) Also is the IMAX thing actually any different?English
0·1 day agoLike someone else said, it really depends on the theater chain and the type of seats. If they are reclining, chances are the distance between rows is larger. Best options would be middle row, one row closer, or up to two rows behind. If it’s IMAX, then it’s definitely safer to go for a farther row vs closer, and even the last row shouldn’t be that bad if you don’t have any other choice.
I’m also guessing based on the layout that the first 5 rows are at ground level so you’ll be looking up the entire time. So I would suggest anywhere starting from row 6.

0·2 days agoThey kinda blew up recently because of their KEXP performance, but I discovered Angine de Poitrine like 2 weeks before that.
I also discovered 88Kasyo Junrei around the same time. Fantastic band.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who works at a (tech) company that's not delirious about AI?English
0·3 days agoFor my pov at my work, there’s definitely that disconnect between what the executives are saying and the ones lower down the chain who are actually tasked to implement and support those new technologies.
There’s a company-wide mandate to use AI, so naturally everyone is trying to inject it into their projects. But the idea of putting AI into something is different from actually implementing it, and the latter is far more complicated with all the governance and security involved. And all these teams are escalating everything because of how long stuff takes to get reviewed and approved or how complicated it is for them (the non-tech people) to actually deploy it themselves. People think they can just deploy a local MCP server on their laptop, or deploy a cloud compute on their own and run it from there. Deploying something in production infrastructure is not as simple as creating a new compute and installing whatever you want.

10·6 days agoI’m gonna take a guess that a big portion of it is infrastructure-as-code, the operations side and not product development itself. I work in the operations side of things and we never touch the product at all, but we deal with a lot of code due to how backend infrastructure is built and maintained now, especially if you’re in the cloud.

Smile, stare at the cake, and lightly bob your head to the song. If you don’t feel awkward with eye contact, then you can glance around the room and look at everyone.
On a related topic, does anyone know why upper management people exclusively do not use greetings (hi, hello, etc.) on their emails? Yes, there are rank-and-file people who do that too, but I notice 99% people in leadership positions write emails like text messages. Maybe because they’re on their phones most of the time and/or use speech-to-text? But I know a lot of them who do this even on their laptops. I dunno, it just gives this air of superiority complex to me.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•It is now better than ever to find alternatives to fossil fuels, do you have any plans?English
0·9 days agoI already have solar panels on the roof, but I’m waiting for plug-in panels to become legal and available. I have a lot of space in my west-facing backyard I can fill with panels. I’m also waiting for sub-30k EVs to become available in my area of the world.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What desktop operating system would you recommend to the average user?English
0·2 months agoIf they are not savvy enough to do troubleshooting themselves or have no one to ask for help, I think macOS would be the best (assuming money isn’t an issue). Otherwise, Linux Mint.
