But isnt the Apple/Google way still using NFC?
Usually a lurker.
Maybe I should’ve just shut up and thought for a bit longer before writing that comment…

It feels like mostly Asian countries are likely to use QR-code while most western (NA and (West-)Europe) countries are likely to use NFC based.
At least that’s what I observed with Youtube and my limited traveling.
Our gov ID card and medical insurance contains NFC chips which can be used for authenticaing with your legal identity (the old school way is post identidification where the company sends a letter to your adress)
Other types of that can be payment. For ID: I like it.
For payment: IMO the advantages are phone-less payment. I don’t need to have my phone on me whenI can tap my bank card on the terminal.Another example:
Our public transit has a state-wide valid ticket.
The usual way you get the ticket issued is as a qr code with the local transit copany where you live.
I specifically opted for a physical card.
Why? If my phone dies, I don’t have a valid ticket. And if that happens you get get fined for it.
I could send in an objection and get it cleared by providing my ticket later at a service point but why bother? :p

Unusual adoption
It’s a stretch to interprete that considering the war and the need for electricity resulting in the easiest way to get access to independant electricity is solar (because water can’t do it and neither can wind).
But depending on the cultural lense it’s
A: Duh. Obviously we need solar because the US bombed our grid to dust
or
B: Huh. That sure is a high number of solar panels. My city doesnt have that many panels.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why do people have issues with OnlyFans Models and Porn Stars.
0·1 day agoWhile yes, I agree that OnlyFans is sex work, I disagree with lumping the general “prostitute” from the street/brothel with the onlyfans/sex cam worker.
The remote nature keeps unsavory folk away by default (under the assumption that they arent doxxed) while sex work in person is, well, in person.

0·3 days agoToilet???
The hell are you talking about? xDIMO quite simple:
Enter restroom
Lock stall
Do your business
Unlock stall
Wash hands (please with soap and in the sink)
Exit restroomSo where again are you washing your hands in the toilet bowl?
Edit: Forgor to mention: Please don’t wipe without toilet paper. And picking your butt with bare hands is very unhygienic.
Usually you should not touch yourself before reaching the sink to clean yourself.
You know that the UK and Ireland are part of the european continent, yes? /j and /s
Edit: And in touristy areas we are likely using primarily English texts but we also like to use english in general for signs because aesthetic
Very pleasant to look at

My literal tech stack:
HP Prodesk and NUC i3: Proxmox hosts
NUC i5: Debian server (primarily docker server)
uGreen NAS: TrueNAS NFS-Storage for proxmox host (connected via 2.5G NIC)
RaspberryPi4 (NES case): docker host for pihole (so I don’t take out my whole DNS access when doing maintenance…)
White sandwich at the botom: HPE Aruba 1930 24G PoE switchAll stacked on my PC (Win11, Ryzen 5 7800X3D, 16GB RAM, RTX 3070)
Edit: Power is stable enough to not need a UPS. In fact I had never experienced a power outage at home.

The reason why phones is: I don’t want to carry 50 cards with me when my phone can do it.
The infrastructure for cards was already there. So instead of replacing the infrastructure you replace the medium.
