1. The price Sony and MS pay for RAM will keep going up regardless of whether there is a hardware refresh or not. So keeping the old version won’t keep consumer costs down. If they don’t refresh the cost increases will just look sillier.
2. They avoid having to search for time on older process nodes while fabs try to migrate to newer ones by updating periodically.

I assume it sells if they are changing capacity allocations

Intel and AMD have prioritized capacity for server CPUs, and the supply for PCs has become less … what PC players can get in Q2 is much less than the volume we got in Q1.

Its also worth pointing out that TSMC is a bit booked right now and Intel has its own fabs. So if you need a server CPU you may have to buy from Intel if you need it soon.

Allegedly Intel’s CPU performance is improving relative to AMD so it may be getting better.

Intel and AMD aren’t claiming shortages. They are switching what they are manufacturing. Companies downstream of them in the consumer space are reporting shortages.

It seems likely. This looks to be shot from a public park a few blocks from the ship building facility based on google maps. Unfortunately the signs don’t quite line up in the nine year old streetview imagery but the rooflines and fences do.

Amusingly the google maps listing for the ship builder uses an image of an old lada left stranded in an intersection after a crash. The other images are of a Gazprom vessel and a yacht.

I wonder if this was what hit the icebreaker.

Might be easier to shoot them down during the daylight hours

There are two parts of this problem:

1. If you are connected to the grid and using it you need to pay for it somehow. This is not a capitalisim thing this is a maintenance issue. Deploying lots of rooftop solar reduces the amount people are paying the grid operators for the same infrastructure as before while they are still using it. This could be solved by making the grid operators public utilities again and charging taxes instead of billing electric rates. Either way rooftop solar owners are going to need to pay grid fees unless they are entirely disconnected from the grid (this is rarely ever the case).
2. It creates issues where generation may outstrip load as well as transmission and storage capacity. A lot of this can be solved with more investment but if you are earning less of power sales and still need to maintain everthing this can be financially challenging.

There is also a third problem where home solar isn’t centrally planned resulting in cases where utilities need to delay homeowners’ solar installations while they figure out grid capacity.

That relies on them not already being full and enough of them existing

If you keep sending them the bank may give you the boot. They tend to fire customers who trigger too many investigations of this type.
