Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•It's sad that people completely misunderstand what Star Trek is about.English
0·4 days agoAgreed. People should dislike modern Star Trek for it’s bad writing, not because it’s progressive.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Gen X didn’t have it as good as boomers but they weren’t far off.English
0·7 days agoWhen the fuck did I say that? I’m saying it was significantly easier for boomers and GenX to buy a house during their prime years than for millennials and GenZ. Learn to read mate.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Gen X didn’t have it as good as boomers but they weren’t far off.English
0·7 days agoFine, and feel free to continue to downvote me, but the difference from Boomer-to-GenX and GenX-to-the generations that followed is catastrophic. Its like saying “yeah, being handicapped sucks but I did break my ankle as a teen so we’re basically in the same boat”

0·7 days ago“Boomers are now contending with insufficient afforable housing” When? Certainly not when they were entering the housing market. All this says is that boomers can’t buy a house right now, much like everyone else. This article is barmy.

0·7 days agoIf buying a house is 3 x your annual income and you don’t own a house, you are either an outlier with tragically unique circumstances or you are incredibly silly.

0·7 days agoDid you get an interest-only mortgage or something? Because property value has skyrocketed since Gen X stepped into the housing market.

0·7 days agoYour personal experience doesn’t reflect actual financial data. I mean this in good faith so please don’t don’t take it the wrong way, but I can literally prove that buying a house was incredibly more affordable for a huge number of Gen X compared to Millennials (and certainly Gen Z). The drop-off for the following generations is immense.

0·7 days agoYou’ll be shocked to learn that plenty of millenials watched Gen X buy houses and enjoy a strong economy.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•I'm so old I remember when people would read the newspaper.
0·7 days agoUK, my dad would go to the cornershop to buy The Mirror.
I was wondering what he was doing with all these mirrors.
Turns out The Mirror is a newspaper.
Yup. America isn’t great by any means but at least America has things like Pride, Black History Month, and civil rights. A lot of countries couldn’t care less.
