The issue is how it will be enacted. It will invariably require transmitting personally identifying information across a network and for it to be stored somewhere for processing. Even if this is done as safely as possible with government systems, there is always the risk of data theft and exposure as well as excluding people that don’t trust the government at all, like pretty much every Indigenous person I’ve ever met.

It as well provides the government with a system and store of information that could be used as tool of oppression.

Exactly. It’s the crux of the issue. Peaceful protests should work, and sometimes do; however, there is always the ability of the authorities to just… ignore because they have various police forces to maintain the status quo (maintain order).

Then what? What is the next course of action? Voting didn’t work, peaceful protests didn’t work… what next? If reforming the current system hasn’t worked for the last century and more, what is the alternative?

No; although, the childhood memories I didn’t remember are from when I was sexually assaulted as a child and about a year afterward.

I suspect many people in this thread also have trauma they don’t want to talk about, which is fair. Talking about these things, even in a pseudo-anonymous capacity, can leave one vulnerable to trolls and other insensitive people. This is where talking with a therapist can really help as there is reduced risk of someone using your trauma to cause further harm.

IMO peaceful protests do have an impact; however, there is a point where those stop working and more direct action needs to be taken. Problem is people don’t want to out of fear of the police.
