Ah fuck. I corrupted my save and now I’ve got -1 jobs.
Shitposter while I tend to two babies. Maybe when I have my life back, I’ll help us get a few more niche communities back?

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Valve veteran slams Tim Sweeney and Epic Games for laying off 1000 people while making 'as much money as possible… and hey Tim, Gabe's better at that than you'English
0·2 days agoI’m not even sure Valve has 1000 employees. They’re notoriously small with a weird structure, iirc something like 300ish people who are free to just take on projects and are well paid.
That just sounds like a Waffle House in Florida or something, except instead of $500, it’s drugs.
I’d personally just hold it with my teeth as soon as I’m done with my little chat. But chances are he’ll just hang from it movie style- nevermind how he’ll get off.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who works at a (tech) company that's not delirious about AI?
0·3 days agoMy wife’s at a major video game company that, oddly enough, hasn’t gone crazy over AI. Since she’s in localization, she uses DeepL which has some machine learning, but not really an LLM and LLMs aren’t really being pushed on her since it’s a downgrade. From what I can tell, their dev team is also just keeping things human made, although they’re in Japan so that might contribute.
They aren’t saints, they did try to union bust a few years back, but their stance on AI, as well as creativity first mentality and recent pay raise guarantees and whatnot, kinda show they’re paying attention.

Movies@lemmy.world•Stephen Colbert Set to Adapt Next 'Lord of the Rings' MovieEnglish
0·4 days agoIt’s also kind of cute because he’s been writing the script with his son for two years. Certainly a dream come true for the guy.
I’m more shocked Tate uses “theirs” correctly and not “they’res” or “theres.”

Games@lemmy.world•Today’s layoffs (Epic Games official post)English
0·5 days agoIt’s kind of wild but Fortnite makes (or made?) way more money than UE royalties, like magnitudes more. UE is a boon to the industry to be sure, but somehow 5% of games’ revenue simply isn’t the same as insane people spending money on stupid skins and dances.
Now is UE was used for 20 games as big as Fortnite, they’d be fine but most AAA companies won’t use UE if they expect a huge haul, with a few exceptions of course.
Fake, since real Minecraft fans very much were not into it. Unless they’re kids, I guess.

Games@lemmy.world•Capcom says it 'will not implement assets generated by AI into our game content,' but still plans to use AI to 'enhance efficiency and boost productivity' in game developmentEnglish
0·6 days agoI feel like they’re just covering their asses because the c-suite wants their AI summaries in emails and shit, but the devs know using it for anything is creative suicide. That, and maybe localization still wants their AI tools, which predate LLMs but probably get lumped in anyway.
Don’t worry, Riolu doesn’t get their weakness to fire until after their evolution! Plus, he’s wearing his protective Focus Sash, so he’ll be fine (assuming he doesn’t get severe oil BRNs)!

politics @lemmy.world•Trump’s ICE airport idea came after a radio host pitched it on Fox News | CNN Business
0·6 days agoTechnically a large percentage (I think, a majority?) of undocumented people are just people who overstay their visas. It was one of the stupidest parts of Trump 1.0s border wall that we made fun of them over.
Just, y’know, you don’t exactly get to decide preemptively who that’s going to be at the airport they arrive at before it happens (though not for lack of trying, those assholes).

News@lemmy.world•It's not just vaccines — parents are refusing other routine preventive care for newborns
0·8 days agoBoth my kids had jaundice and had to be under a blue light for a few days after birth. Not doing so doesn’t necessarily kill the kid, but it can cause brain damage.
I wonder if these parents are refusing this, it’s a bit unsettling so I bet they are, which is an upsetting thought. :/
I’m so grateful my hybrid from over a decade ago still gets 45mpg. People thought me crazy to drop roughly $5k more on a car but who’s laughing now?
Although, there were so few options back then and I really wanted an EV, even before we had places to charge it. If I just had a little more money I’d probably have had to get a Tesla. No way past me would have guessed the current state of things regarding that… I knew gas was gonna be a liability, but not that Elon was a lunatic, or even who he was. This was pre-Trump, even!
Real question while we shitpost; if they require a 4 second video can you just wear a disguise for fun? I’ve got neat prosthetics I don’t get to use often.
And if so, which aspects are best to cover up? Bushy unibrow? Demon contacts? Pointy ears? Crazy nose? Forehead ridges?
Not just likes but also… whatever threads calls a retweet. What human being freely echoes an advertisement? Lol
I like that it tries its best to avoid spoiling just what is about to historically unfold. I’m pretty sure it’s trained not to talk about death but it just sounds like it’s trying so hard not to let Lincoln know so he keeps the timeline on track.

Fediverse@lemmy.ml•John Oliver promoted alternatives to big tech in last night's episode, including Mastodon and Pixelfed
0·1 year agoYa know, if a writer for Oliver gets the right push, it isn’t even to strange to get them to literally open an instance on the Fediverse. They love getting their names on shit and the dare “I bet you can’t get @oli.verse instance to become the top Lemmy instance” would be right up their ally. You’d see a million users in a week, lol.

Lol, I can’t believe you’d say Love Hina since that was the first anime I pirated for a friend on his request and it ended up being the first one I saw that wasn’t like, Dragon Ball or Sailor Moon. It wasn’t great, but the second one I pirated and therefore saw was Chobits, which was.
I guess my childhood isn’t too different from others, although we’ve never had the money to actually buy anime until streaming was a thing. Back then, it was like 30 dollars for a few episodes on dvd l…
