Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who do you think was history's greatest villain?
0·6 days agoI believe the current view on LDL is that its level what the body needs it to be and generally doesn’t require intervention. However, the Tg/HDL ratio is a reasonably good indicator of your metabolic health. OTOH Tg should be below 100 mg/dL, and ideally it should be lower than the HDL reading. The ratio of Tg/HDL should be below 1.8, using mg/dL.

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Thoughts on GrapheneOS? Is it worth switching from an iPhone?
0·6 days agoI moved from GOS to LineageOS and found that battery life improved on my P8Pro. Apps also install quicker.
Part of the battery improvement could be because I’m able to disable parts of apps with root privileges via AppManager.

0·7 days agoCholesterol doesn’t cause heart disease, and salt in the form of sodium is fine too as long as you don’t have chronically elevated levels of insulin in your blood.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who do you think was history's greatest villain?
0·7 days agoThere is no scientific link between cholesterol and heart disease in human beings. It was based on a study that was done on rabbits fed cholesterol and vegetable oil. The ensuing focus on low-fat diets has caused in my opinion an untold amount of suffering, including my own NAFLD.
Ancel Keys was a fish physiologist. He was highly charismatic, had a forceful personality, and dismissive of his peers that did not share his theory of heart disease.

What I think he’s trying to say is that Glyphosate affects the shikimate pathway, which is a biological pathway in plants. This doesn’t exist in human cells, but it does exist in our gut microbiota.
We also know now that Glyphosate is a glycine analogue and can displace glycine anywhere in protein synthesis, with unknown effects. It’s also likely an endocrine disrupter.
Mass is not conserved. And while CICO may be true in the same sense that spherical cows can be used as an approximation, the devil’s in the details.
If all you need to do, as you say, is to “burn more and eat less”, then how come people with T1D lose weight while eating more? It’s physics, right?
Not only is it not set in stone, it appears that your BMR is affected by what you do. If not provided with sufficient nutrition, the body seems to adapt and lowers BMR.

Consider also reducing your sugar intake!
