Idk, espresso is so much work if you do it manually. Gotta get the coffee to a certain temperature with a fancy kettle, then press it and hope it’s at that magical number.

There are so many ways to get to the final product anymore, it really comes down to how much you want to fiddle with it and what you can spend.
I bought a discounted refurbished Breville Bambino Plus 5 years ago. It doesn’t have all the fancy adjustments but it’s faster and tastier than my drip machine and I just have to push a couple buttons. With enough money there’s even fully automatic machines that you dump beans in and the machine does the rest.
All that said, fuck Nestle, fuck Nespresso.
Nespresso capsules make so much trash. I can’t understand how anybody would use these to make their regular coffee.

I mean, I hear you, but on the ISS I think the aluminum waste shouldn’t be a significant concern.
And it may be very appreciated that they help contain the coffee grounds. Cleaning a portafilter in microgravity must be an absolute nightmare.
And to be clear cleanliness in that environment is very very important.
I recall reading somewhere that the guy that invented it, regrets it and doesn’t even use then because of how bad they are for the environment.
Trash is bad, but for me it actually is just that you would need to buy coffee in a special container, you can’t just go and buy the one you want as it has to be compatible with your fucking coffee machine?!?!?! fuck nestle

It’s not that big an issue if you know why, the 2 capsules are:
The issue was the original smaller one didn’t have a way to verify that you got it from Nespresso, so it got generic’d and there are thousands of others selling the capsules
Nespresso essentially copied the printer cartridge world and made a second version that as you can see has a barcode printed on the rim of it that the machine reads to confirm it’s bought from Nespresso
The main thing is simply don’t buy a coffee machine that requires the second capsule and then you’re free to get capsules wherever you want
I bought mine second hand and it had the second type and learned a valuable lesson that day :))
