What you wrote reminded me of a minor idea that’s been floating in my head: I kind of wish that more governments did something like requiring adding your business to OpenStreetMaps as part of registering the business with the government, or even just publishing the basic data (location, opening hours, …) somewhere that all the maps apps sync with

Isn’t a decent amount of trading vibes / meme based? At least, a lot of crypto and arguably Tesla is. For those traders, isn’t Microsoft an AI stock? At least some of the genAI stock valuations are from a subset of people thinking that the singularity is coming and that the first of these companies to do it will boom, aren’t they? And isn’t that the target audience for this sort of reporting?

Agreed, but I think it’s also common for people to anthropomorphise these things and common for these chatbots to reinforce and support their users views. I think that’s a problem for more people than just those struggling through disorders or an emotionally turbulent time. But I think those people are particularly vulnerable to the flaws, even with functioning mental health and a strong support network. But yeah, a lot of these pieces dramatise and anthropomorphise in ways that aren’t necessarily helpful

From the US government, I completely agree. But a functional government helps and supports its citizens and there are plenty of ways an app on your phone can help. Admittedly that’s pretty ideological, but at the very least I’d argue there is a spectrum

The study could also be summarised as “we trained our LLMs on biased data, then honed them to be useful, then chose some human qualities to map models to, and would you believe they align along a spectrum being useful assistants!?”. They built the thing to be that way then are shocked? Who reads this and is impressed besides the people that want another exponential growth investment?

You can use cryptography in a centralised system too. The issues with the fakes is more that its not supported / people try to work around the system. Why would a block chain backed system stay that way after they are entrenched? It’s layers on top and all those layers are separate layers that are trying to make money… that’s where there funding comes from and why they exist. Why would they not go down the same path since owning their layer gives that control. I have friends that were working exactly in that space and I saw nothing that made me think they would be any better besides currently being smaller

Using a decentralised system for concert tickets seems like an expensive way to take a centralised operation (the organiser sells the tickets and can manage resell / third parties) to force a distributed system (that will be less efficient since there is overhead ensuring distributed systems aren’t controllable by a single entity)

But also, why would we assume it wouldn’t be outcompeted? Most common ancestors are dead / changed somewhat aren’t they?
